Salt Lake City Adopts New Ordinance Regulating Home Occupations

On January 8, 2013 the City Council adopted revisions to the City’s code relating to home occupations. Ordinance No.3 of 2013 streamlines the process for citizens to obtain a business license, provides clearer standards for operation and reduces the associated fees.

Changes to the ordinance include:

Removal of Conditional Home Occupations and the special exception approval process.

  • Removal of the Home Occupation Review Fees (standard business license fees still apply).
  • Permits the use of accessory structures.
  • Permits employees with limitations
  • Changes to standards and prohibited uses
